Here’s a quick overview of SEO.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. A search engine is what you use to search for things online – such as Google or Bing.
SEO is all about working on a website to help it get found for relevant terms on Google.
It can be broadly split into 2 areas
- On site SEO
- Off site SEO
On Site SEO
On site SEO is all about making sure your website ticks all the boxes that your search engine wants to see. The rules do change frequently because search engines are always evolving.
Some of the things that need to be looked at for on site SEO are:
- Page speed – making sure your website loads within a certain time frame – a fast website is rewarded by search engines
- Meta titles – these are key words and terms that search engines can read, you can often see them in the tab at the top of your browser
- High quality content that gives the answer to what your website user is looking for
These are just a few things that need to be looked at to ensure your on site SEO is right.
Once your on site SEO is right, you need to work on your off site SEO.
Off Site SEO
Off site SEO involves gaining links from other websites that Google sees to have a strong authority and is relevant to your content.
This is done by creating regular content that other websites would be willing link back to you for.
The more quality links that you gain, the more Google will see your website as having a higher authority and will slowly start to move it up the rankings.
