Saltaire Canteen is a social enterprise part of a national movement to tackle food wastage. The bistro approached us to build a small website with the limited budgets they had. We loved what they were doing for the community so we made sure they got so much more for their money…
As always, our first step was to understand what Saltaire Canteen were trying to achieve. We were so impressed with their ethics and values that we decided to offer them significant amounts of our time as part of our community pro bono work.
Step one was to get a deep understanding of their goals and capture this through our design work.
Once we had the brief, the team got to work on creating a warm and welcoming design with a rustic feel that fit perfectly in line with the look and feel of the Saltaire community.
As a business to consumer organisation, we knew the website would have high usage via mobile devices so getting it right on this platform was paramount.
The end result was an easy to use, informative website that allowed customers to book tables online.
They say a picture paints 1000 words. Well, we say an animation paints a million words. We were so impressed with Saltaire Canteen's values that we offered an animation as a donation to the cause to help communicate what it is all about.
We captured their message by writing a script that we then directed through a professional voice over. Our motion graphics expert then got to work on telling the story through animated visuals. Have a watch and let us know what you think!
“We wanted to work with Xpand as they are, literally, our neighbours in Saltaire.
They have made the process of putting together a website easy and accessible. They have been very approachable and adapted to working with us. We are very pleased indeed with the outcome!”
